Still a Fat Ass

So I started the program on 4/16. Its been 6 weeks since then and I just started the second section, which means I worked out for a total of 28 days and took 14 rest days. So thats pretty much working out for 2 days and taking a rest day. I think thats pretty good.

You know whats NOT good though? How Im looking. The only view you can even see a difference at is the side angle. If you dare to check out the gross pictures...

I took my measurements, and those tell a better story. Most significant loss was the chest, (like 3 inches) and arms (a whole inch) but everything else was the same. Makes sense cause I have not lost any weight yet.

I was actually talking out my frustrations with Ryan last night. I mean how is it possible that Im eating better than I ever have, and working out like a rock star, and Im not looking that different and no weight loss??? Well he was pretty brutal but honest and truthful; he said, science doesnt lie. Clearly you are working out great, so thats not it. And you are eating healthier food, we all are, but what it comes down to for weight loss is burning more calories than you take in. Somehow, you are taking in just as many as you burn so you need to eat less. At first I was offended and defensive, but then I took a step back and realized he was totally right.

So I looked at what I had been eating and while I HAVE been eating healthier, I have also been eating more, mostly in the breakfast hours. Before working out I would have a glass of milk then not eat anything until close to 11am for an early lunch or a snack then lunch later. Now since Im working out I have to eat right after my meal and Im always hungry, so I have the same glass of milk before my workout, but I eat a good breakfast (eggs and whole grain toast) after my workout and before work, then I am still hungry by the time 11am rolls around and I was continuing my day eating the same amounts I was before; so essentially even though I was eating better in general, I was still adding in an extra meal; breakfast, which was about 400 calories a day, which is prob close to the extra I was burning with the workouts and metabolism increase. So I need to eat less throughout the rest of the day after breakfast, and just space them out more and be smarter about which calories I choose to eat.

Yesterday I tracked my calories and could see how they added up so early in my day now with my new routine, and then just realized I had very few allotted for dinner, and kept within that. Low and behold, this morning I had lost a pound!!! So Im being good again today (I have eaten 600 between my breakfast and lunch snack of yogurt and fruit and have 900 left).

Only unfortunate thing is now that Ive finally figured this out and want to be extra good and test out the new theory, we are leaving for the river tomorrow morning and will have an entire weekend of debauchery, drinking and eating all kinds of awful things. And not a P90X workout anywhere in sight. (Maybe a few morning runs if I feel overly ambitious). So we will see how long it will take to recover from it....

Grrrrrr

Ok so WTF???? I gained another 2 lbs yesterday. For no reason! It's not even like I ate bad! Oatmeal for breakfast, lasagna for lunch, banana for afternoon snack and spicy tofu over rice noodles for dinner. Portions appropriate. YES heavy on the carbs, but that shouldnt have made me gain that much weight.

Only thing it could be is water weight or bloating before my period - last pill was on Sat, so Im due to start anytime. And by looking at my weight chart, I for sure have a monthly cycle of gain and loss, which would make sense to flow with my period cycle, esp on birth control. I guess the only thing for me to do is keep doing what Im doing (working out and eating well) and tracking my weight to look for more patterns over time.

I am glad Im doing all this though, becase its going to give me a much better understanding of my body and how it functions and what it's natural tentancies and cycles are.

Ok rant complete. I had eggs and whole wheat pita for breakfast (no cheese), and I have leftover spicy tofu for lunch, and a hot dog (no bread) for snack. Something simple for dinner since Im going to make another batch of baby food for Aurora.

Nearing The End of Phase I

I am nearing the end of phase I and I'm excited to take the pictures, and measurements and see my progress. Although I have not lost weight really, I can feel the change and it feels great.

Need to Stay Motivated

So I really need to stay motivated. I lost a pound a week for the first 3 weeks, but then this last weekend I gained 3 lbs back out of nowhere (its not like I gorged out on dinner the night before either; although I was not perfect for Mother's Day weekend, I was not really bad either) and Im really discouraged now. The workouts are going great though, and I feel really good. Im stronger, have more energy and endurance just in day to day things like carrying Rory and taking in the groceries. I guess that will have to be enough and I have to trust that the weight will come in time.

The weekends are for sure my splurge. Its just too hard to get up early on the weekend, I want to sleep in, esp when on the weekdays Im up at 4am to work out! So Im going to try to fit in a run in the morning or walks with Rory and Guinness on the weekends just to do something and go from there. So while calendar wise Ive been on the program for 4 weeks, I only just finished the 3rd week of the program today.

Back on Track

Back on track for the week. Yesterday and today back up at 4am for workouts, feels great. At the weigh in I had not lost anything. But I of course track my own weight every day and record it on a fancy spreadsheet Ryan created for me that does a weekly average since you fluctuate daily, ANYWAY Ive actually lost 1 lb a week on average since I started the program. (So I had gained more weight after the first biggest loser weigh in and before I started my program). Im toning up a lot so hopefully the weight comes next! YEA, I cant wait to fit into my smaller pants. And hopefully Ill be *more* bikini ready than I am now come Memorial Day weekend. Here I come Kings River!!!

The food is good. I made a super healthy spaghetti last night. Homemade sauce with hormone free ground beef from Henrys, and beet greens, minced carrots, lots of spices and garlic & onions; I know it sounds gross and NOT like a pasta sauce at all, but it really tasted like (albeit healthy) marinara. I cant believe I hid so many veggies in a tomato sauce!!! And served over whole grain pasta, that was one pasta dish I didnt have to feel guilty about. Ive also been staying away from desserts and white carbs. Ryan made some garlic bread with dinner last night and I had one bite and no more. It gets easier to say no after you make a commitment to yourself Ive noticed.

I'm a Bad Bad Girl

Today is the 3rd day in a row that I have not worked out. :0(

Saturday, I had Venissa's shower up in Temecula area, then had to rush back down to SD for the work event at our Dean's house that I planned. Yesterday of course was Aurora's bday party and she didnt get to bed very well, so I got to sleep later than I would have liked. So this morning there was no way I was waking up at 4 to work out. Im hoping this evening I might find time to do the stretching video then start tomorrow morning again. Im not holding my breath. Most likely Ill just start back up in the morning.

I was pretty good eating wise, considering the temptations I had all weekend. I tried to make good choices for the kind of food I ate, and while it was not perfect, I also kept my portions down. YEA! One battle at a time.

Our first weigh in at works' biggest loser is today, we will see if I lost anything. Based on my own weight tracking, prob not; but I have been toning up a lot I have noticed in these weeks Ive worked out so at this stage Im prob mostly replacing fat with muscle, which is a good thing.
